and if we don't change anything, at least port the clean up from Neil's fix in bug 191818. Currently in moz: "close other tabs" in the file menu but not in the tab contextual menus. Currently in Phoenix: no "close other tabs" at all.
> Currently in moz: "close other tabs" in the file menu but not in the tab > contextual menus. No longer true. Bug 191826 re-introduced the context menu item.
OS all? Hardware all?
Can this be fixed for Fb 0.6? Please. If it's decided against having 'Close Other Tabs' in by default, a pref (off by default) for the functionality is the next best option.
remove this d*mn context-entry. i clicked again twice on this entry and lost all urls... or move it at least further away from the "close this tab" entry.
adadadad@gmx.net: there is no "close this tab" menu option, in Firebird it's called "Close Tab". And the correct solution to your "trigger-happy" clicking is to have Edit|Undo implemented for tab closing. Right now, there are four (4) ways of closing the currently open tab, and no way of closing all others but the current tab at once. That's why I'm advocating at least a possibility of having "Close Other Tabs" context menu (via a pref or not). Another possible way of doing this is to have "Open Tab in New Window" context menu item. Then one can easily re-open the current tab in a new window and close the original window altogether. However, this approach is not 100% comparable with having "Close Other Tabs" because session|scrolling|history|etc. information will get lost.
I just started playing with 1.4B and I'm very disappointed to see that "close other tabs" is now again right next to "close tabs". As has already been stated, it is way too easy to accidentally hit the wrong item and lose a whole screen of tabs. This is hostile to the user. Several excellent suggestions have already been offered, including seperating "close tab" and "close other tabs" which might be the easiest way.
Accidentally clicking on Close Other Tabs finally bit me enough times to get me annoyed enough to file a bug on it and it turns out there are 3 bugs filed against it already :-) At one point, Mozilla separated the Close Tab and Close Other Tab items in the context menu and I thought it was fixed, but then they moved back together. While that's good from a UI grouping standpoint, it's still frustrating when you press the wrong menu item. Another thread suggested overloading the Close Tab entry so you use Alt or some other key to get it to close the other tabs. That seems like a reasonable thing to do as well, but the newbie users will never find it. Maybe grouping the Close Other Tabs and Reload All Tabs under a new context menu submenu would be better...like: All Tabs ....Close ....Reload ....Save As Bookmark Whatever the decision is, it's pretty apparent that the current UI has to change given the number of bugs filed against it...

Wow, there seem to be a lot of people with no aiming or reading skills. (Just kidding !!!) I created a little extension that brings back "Close Other Tabs" (and nothing else), you can find it here: http://dietrich.cx/devel/firebird/
I can't find any place this feature is located in Firebird, I thought it was moved to File->Close other tabs Not even a shortcut exists
The wording of 'close other tabs' is confusing, as a new user I tried it to see what it did, and lost a whole load of stuff. I would question the existence of this option, but would advocate that it be changed from 'close other tabs' to 'close all other tabs' as this might clarify it's function.

It's been gone for so long, now I'm starting to click the wrong option when I close a tab... Maybe we should switch the places of "Close Tab" and "Close other tabs"?
