I would like to see another option in the context menu (when you right-click) in
the URI bar - "Paste and go". When you select this option it pastes the URI from
the clipboard, and also changes the current URI to that one, saving a click (yes
I really am that lazy!). Opera v7 has this and I find it really convienient. Thanks.

Thinking about it this would probably be a lot better as a plug-in. Has anyone
got any links on how to create them? I'm prepared to do it myself (I'm OK with
XHTML, JS & CSS) but I have no idea how. Shouldn't be too hard should it?

Yes, you're perfectly free to "rescind" and enhancement request if you find a
workaround and nobody else has commented that they want it in the main product.
 However, technically, if nothing was checked into Mozilla, then it shouldn't be
resolved as "fixed".
