User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 In textarea elements containing enough text to give the textarea a vertical scrollbar, clicking somewhere in the textarea and dragging the mouse down (or up) beyond the boundary of the textarea will cause Mozilla to first highlight all the text in the textarea (expected behavior), but then continue scrolling the entire HTML window until the bottom of the page is reached. This is very annoying behavior since this type of action is usually carried out to make a selection within a textbox. Sometimes a ctrl-a won't suffice, so it is necessary to click the mouse and drag down a ways to select the desired text. When Mozilla continues scrolling the entire window (rather than stopping with the textarea when its bottom is reached) it often causes me to have to reselect the text being more careful not to go too far with the mouse. This can be seen in virtually any textarea containing text. Simply click at a certain point and drag the mouse down beyond the bottom edge of the textarea or even beyond the bottom edge of Mozilla (when it is not in a fully maximized state). I was able to do this with the "Search for Your Bug" box above (when entering this bug). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click in a textarea that contains a decent amount of text 2. Hold down the mouse and drag it far down (or up) beyond the border of the textarea or even of Mozilla 3. Watch Mozilla scroll the entire HTML window instead of just the textarea 4. Sometimes once the entire window has been scrolled it becomes very difficult to scroll on the page anymore (the cursor turns into a left-right arrow instead of a pointer for scrolling) even after clicking and navigating to a different tab and then back again. Actual Results: Mozilla scrolls the entire HTML window rather than just the textarea in question. Expected Results: Just the textarea should be scrolled until the bottom (or top is reached). The outer HTML window should not be affected. Compare to the behavior of Internet Explorer.

Bernie, this seems to be bug 56602. > Sometimes once the entire window has been scrolled it becomes very > difficult to scroll on the page anymore As a workaround you may use the PgUp/PgDown keys to get to where you started scrolling. That makes Mozilla fully responsible again. Please reopen with clearly stating the difference if you think this is not bug 56602. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 56602 ***
