After doing so, my PC would not stand by (suspend to RAM) correctly. Rolling back WinXP to just before installing java plugin fixed problem. I am using a Gigabyte GX7DXR+ motherboard with AMD thunderbird 1.4 Ghz CPU @ 1470 Mhz and the motherboard option Suspend to RAM (rather than just slow down and snooze a bit) because it it shuts down all the fanz. The faulty standby would turn the PC off but keep the fans going, and would only restart by a reset, not power button. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. install java 2. try to standby 3. Actual Results: pc should have worked as it did previously wrt suspend mode Expected Results: left Windows power management alone!
I see your using Mozilla 1.2.1. Do you see the same problem in 1.3 or the 1.4 alpha version? It's quite possible the problem has been sorted out since the version your currently using.
Well thanks Joseph, uninstalling Moz 1.2.1 then installing Moz 1.4a and java etc makes it all work about fine. However, running a java app does make my entire screen flicker somewhat. I guess I can put up with that.
