I'm getting this too (on Linux), though I can always reproduce it and can't
actually make the personal bookmarks reappear at all (they're still always there
in the bookmarks sidebar, though). The fix for bug 199178 did not help me.

Nope, I tell a lie, the bookmarks do reappear at some random point after
browsing for a while. But then they're gone again next restart. So I am indeed
seeing exactly this bug.

Hah, great, they reappear for me but they don't actually do anything. Something
is pretty wacky.

A clobber-build fixed this for me.

Hmm. So should we close this bug as works for me ?
Now showing on Mac OS X in bug 204022?

Successfully reproduced!!!
Yes, I could reproduce this successfully tonight twice.. and I beleive that I
know how to reproduce this ! Here is what you do.
I am running mozilla on my WIN-XP. I have a shortcut for this on my desktop. I
have to do is double click on this shortcut to start mozilla.
Now, to reproduce this problem, all that I have to extra is open mozilla twice,
in quick succession. The second mozilla will not have the personal toolbar.
THIS IS NO MORE A "NON REPRODUCIBLE" PROBLEM.

This first appeared for me after using the "Switch Profile..." menu item to
create a new profile then switch back to the original one. Prior to that I was
using the same build (Mach-O, maybe 4/23) for about a week without seeing the
bug even once. Could starting Mozilla twice rapidly be simulating a similar
process as switching profiles in terms of locking/unlocking files?

Using a new profile, I can't reproduce on the win32trunk build (2003-05-05-09)
under Windows XP. However, I can still see this issue on the Macho trunk
(2003-05-06-09) build under 10.2.5 as described in
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204022.

same problem. first window (on start): no personal toolbar. opening a new
window: toolbar appears. (mozilla 1.4b - ID 2003050714, macosx 1.2.5, german
language pack) absolutely reproducable! (happens everytime i start mozilla)

I'm running OS X 10.2.6, Mozilla 1.4b. This bug happens to me when Mozilla
starts up. This last time I started it up after a crash, though I don't think
that is relevant. The first window shows home and Bookmarks but not
any of my personal toolbar links. The next window shows the personal toolbar.

(continuation from previous message) I closed mozilla (no crash) and restarted.
The bug still shows, which demonstrates that the crash is not relevant. A
second window shows the toolbar. Reloading the page and starting
the Bookmark Manager did not help the initial window.
Looks like the bug is completely reproducible: Shut down mozilla and start
it again.
