Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507
Since I went from 1.4a -> 1.4b I often can't get all my mail messages from
my mailbox. I use POP. When I try to get my messages the following alert
sometimes shows up:
The DELE command did not succeed. Mail server pop.iprimus.com.au responded:
unsupported SASL authentication method.
I have Norton AntiVirus 2002 scanning my email. (I believe this sits between my
mail client and the POP server.) I have no idea what server software my ISP is
using.
Please let me know what other info you'd like.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click the "Get Msgs" button
Actual Results:
This time, Mozilla downloaded the first message in my inbox (there were two),
then issued the error message gien above.
Expected Results:
Downloaded both messages.

That's a very strange case. The SASL messages is about the authentication. But
Mozilla uses (in 1.4a and 1.4b and on) only modes advertised by the server. To
this when the DELE command is issued the authentication is already completed.
Although a problem that occurs only sometimes is always problematic. You might
try a nightly from 20030515 and above. There were some problems fixed after
1.4b that might have cause your problems.
But if this doesn't solve it, please check "Leave messages on server" for some
time and see if the error still occurs. That's no solution but can be a hint for
us what's the problem.
Additionally it would be useful for us to get a POP protocol from a failing mail
get. How you can set up your system to produce such a log is described here:
http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#pop

I switched on "Keep messages on server" and tried again.
This time I got a different alert:
The PASS command did not succeed. Mail server pop.iprimus.com.au responded:
proxy authentication failed.
The log is attached.
Turning off Norton Antivirus's email scanning resulted in the same thing (and
the same-looking log.)

I just installed 2003051512 and everything's working fine.
If I don't post another comment within a few days, please assume I'm no longer
seeing this bug.

Ah, ok, that's what I feared.
Your server seems to have the same problems as not few others. Please see the
bug this one will be duped to.
