Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030529
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030529

When I moved from 1.3.1 to 1.4rc1, my search engine profile was reverted from
Google to Netscape search. Confusingly, opening the associated preferences
dialogue showed Bugzilla to be selected instead.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
After I re-adjusted the search engine preference to Google, it immediately
worked, w/o a need to restart the browser.

Expected Results:
Mozilla should have honored my search engine specs from the start.
i can confirm the ignoring of the already selected search engine... i've had to (re)select google each time i've upgraded from v1.0 thru several betas and releases all the way up to the now installed 1.4rc1... i cannot say that i've seen a different engine selected in the preferences, though...

the resolution, in all my cases, was to simply reselect google and exit the preferences...
Thanks for your confirmation, but although it is easy to fix, it still is
annoying and also not comforting as well as beyond the average luser.
Reporter: Can you retry with a nightly from today (you need a nightly that was
created after 10/12/2003 12:40, just watch out for the date in
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/)?
I confirm this bug - It happens to me ocasionally, last time after 12.10.2003
a_geek, Matus: does this only happen, when you install/start Mozilla to/from a
different directory than before?
Bug 205708 comment #16 explains why this matters: the search engine is saved as
a complete path to your Mozilla app directory. When a different directory is
used, the search engine is partly forgotten...
No answer... this is a dup anyway: bug 187293.
