Build Date & Platform Bug Found:
Linux commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-11-08-m12 installed on P200 RedHat 6.1
Linux commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-12-08-m12 installed on P200 RedHat 6.1

Overview Description:
On Linux and Mac, you can not retrieve mail under POP. When you click on Get
Msg button, it stalls and does not continue. The application or system is not
frozen. I tried repeated attempts to download my pop mail but failed. In the
terminal window, I do not receive any error message.

This problem does not occur under IMAP. Using the same pop account on Win32, I
can successfully retrieve mail. (Weird)

Steps to Reproduce:
0) Delete my moz registry and previous user50 profile
1) Installed Linux build
2) Run ./mozilla -mail
(It does not matter if you migrate you profile or create a new profile)
   The new profile wizard appears
3) Enter a profile name or choose the default then continue
The messenger windows appears followed by the mail wizard
4) Enter your mail server sitting and continue.
(Be sure to select POP3 as you server type.)
The mail server name should appear in the left pane.
5) Click on the arrow next to mail server name to expand the folder list.
6) Select the Inbox
7) Click on Get Msg button off the toolbar
8) Enter you password when prompted
   The password is accepted.
The status bar indicate it is downloading message 1 then it stops.

Actual Results:
It stalls downloading mail messages. The status reads "Receiving message 1 of
18". The last thing displayed in the terminal windows was:
  ...
  Move Window by 117,100
  screen x 0screen y 0
  Webshell- = 5
  Webshell- = 4

I waited at least 20 minutes before giving up.

Expected Results:
It should download my mail stored on the server.

Additional Builds and Platforms Tested On:
This problem does not occur on Win32. I tested the commercial seamonkey build
1999-12-11-18-m12 and 1999-12-12-09-m12

I found that this problem does occur on MacOS commercial seamonkey build 1999-
12-11-08-m12. It has the same symptons as Linux. The Mac 12/11 build was the
latest available.

Additional Information:
It does not matter if you migrated your profile or created a new profile.
In testing, I trashed my mozregistry file and previous user profile.

I viewed my inbox mail file in a text editor and it was empty.
I also check my prefs.js setting to double check that my setting were correct.

The mail messages on the server are mostly simple plain text and html mail
messages.
I'll update my linux commerical build at home and see if I can reproduce, and if
so, see if I can fix it.

Summary: [Regression] Can't retrieve mail under POP on Linux and Mac platforms. → [DOGFOOD][Regression] Can't retrieve mail under POP on Linux and Mac platforms.
Marking dogfood. I believe this worked on 12/10 builds, right Peter?
fyi,
I checked friday 12/10 build and found that (yes) this worked in the Linux
commercial build 1999-12-10-08-m12 and Mac commercial build 1999-12-10-08-m12.

I also tried saving the password in the prefs.js file. It did not help.
fyi,
I download today linux commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-13-08-m12. I trashed
my old moz registry and user profile and created a single pop profile. I can
reproduce this problem. No mac commercial build yet.

/Peter
fyi,
I downloaded today macos commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-13-08-m12. I deleted
my moz registry and user profile and created a new single pop profile. It fails
as linux.

I downloaded today win32 commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-13-09-m12. I
deleted my moz registry and user profile. On win32, I created a new single pop
profile and I was Successful in downloading my pop mail. Note: I was using the
same test account on all three platforms.
Seth is working on the problem. He said he can reproduce the problem on his
debug build.
jefft is investigating the problem on mac, and I'm looking at linux.

the first guess is that this is caused by some recent line ending change

(that's just a guess, we're debugging now.)

Assign to me, this definitely is the problems with the pop3 state machine which
related to the change I made to bug 20312.
when you get a patch, let me know, and I'll test it on linux.
