Address book items cannot be deleted with the Delete key. Delete toolbar button
works fine.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select any item in the address book.
2. Press the delete key.
3. Nothing happens.
Actual Results:
Nothing at all.
Expected Results:
Deleted the selected item.

which build are you using?
Thunderbird 0.1 and earlier contained this bug which has been fixed in the
meantime (bug 214482).

It's version 0.1. I didn't see this item (214482) during my search...apologies.
