User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030925 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030925 Any NNTP message sent over SSL is delivered only when completly exiting mozilla while I can post over SSL with Outlook Express. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. send an NNTP message over SSL Actual Results: sending messages window displays status sending message and progress bar remains empty. message is delived once I close all mozilla windows (mail & newsgroups, browser, composer ...) Expected Results: simply deliver the message and return to mail and newsgroup window
I have this problem as well. Here is my configuration Client: Debian Unstable running mozilla 1.6 Server: Debian Stable with backported inn 2.4.0 and ssl 0.9.7 One slight modification for my case, I can post messages if they contain only text / html. The failure occurs for me when I attempt to attach anything, including inline html images or other actual binary attachments. If I kill mozilla while the message is being sent, it will send it before exiting. If I allow it to stay up, the server eventually reports that the posting has timed out. Posting works correctly when I allow connections without SSL. I would love to provide you a NSPR log of the protocol transaction, but when SSL is enabled, no NNTP session information is logged (another bug?). The server logs do not provide any indication why Mozilla is hanging, the session on the server side shows the start of the post, but nothing is delivered unless I kill mozilla.
The same error is occurring with me. My setups are as follows: Dell Inspiron 600m, 768MB RAM, Windows XP SP1+all current patches, Thunderbird 0.7.1; Athlon XP1500 ECS K7S5A with 512MB RAM, Windows XP SP1+all current patches, and Thunderbird 0.6; Same Athlon XP, Slackware 10, Kernel 2.6.7, Mozilla 1.7.1. The NNTP+SSL server is running a hand-compiled and configured INND on a Dell Optiplex GX110 with 256MB RAM, Slackware Linux 9.1, kernel 2.4.22. Other people in my company are also experiencing identical symptoms.
This is strange -- I just encountered this bug while using stunnel to wrap an unencrypted NNTP session from Thunderbird to my SSL NNTP server. Outlook doesn't exhibit this behavior in either native SSL or tunneled mode, and I don't have any other platforms to test with.
Same problem Tested with Mozilla 1.7.3 on Linux, Windows 98 and Windows XP If I disable ssl posting works fine...

Tested again with 1.8 alpha and with build 20041115, no changes If you go offline the article gets posted but mozilla complaints about no messages sent via SMTP
