The first time I use View Source in a session, the View Source window comes up
blank and is missing the Edit menu. The second time I use it, the View Source
window fails to open, but I get an hourglass-and-pointer cursor. Sometimes
MozillaFirebird.exe doesn't exit when I close the last window as a result.

This is a regression in
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031008
Firebird/0.7+ (aebrahim)
after using "View Source" once, the following error is displayed inthe
JavaScript Console:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getIntPref]" nsresult:
"0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)"  location: "JS frame ::
chrome://cookie/content/cookieTasksOverlay.xul :: CookieTasksStartup :: line 84"
 data: no]

note: this doesn't seem to be reproducable 100% of the time, this time on first
load of source viewer the Edit menu was present, but the viewer still didn't
work on 2nd time
-> me, I see the problem.
I guess the bug is also on the 0.7 branch, right?

I can't reproduce comment 0 with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031009 Firebird/0.7+

The javascript error mentioned in comment 1 is bug 173879. This was reported
2002-10-10...
Using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031008
Firebird/0.7+, with RedHat Linux 9.0:

I experience about the same problems as described in comment #0: the source
window can be displayed only once, and then nothing happens when invoking the
"view source" command.

Besides, I get Javascript errors as described in comment #1. This seems to be
reproduceable.

OS should be set to "all" since it happens under Linux as well as Windows XP.
Target Milestone: --- → Firebird0.8
Confirming as comment #4 on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O;
en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031006 Firebird/0.7+/jtalkington-nightly
chrome://cookie/content/cookieTasksOverlay.xul is bug 173879
also, I'd like to mention that after using View Source and then closing the
browser, the MozillaFirebird.exe process does not quit peacefully - needs to be
killed.
OS: Windows XP → All
Hardware: PC → All
View Source kills my browser. Happens every time.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031009 Firebird/0.7+
Keywords: dataloss
On 10-07 aebrahim, View Source when attempted through the native browser
interface (right-click, View->Page Source, etc.) doesn't work, but the View
Source option in various extensions (Web Developer, PNH toolbar, etc.) does work
okay.
Viewing source was working fine via CTRL+U until I tried to view source via
menu. Restarting the browser doesn't fix anything.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031008
Firebird/0.7+ (aebrahim)
Works for me using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a)
Gecko/20031010 Firebird/0.7+ (clobber build with a freshly pulled CVS tree)

No matter what combination of Edit->View Source, context menu, and Ctrl-U I use,
I cannot replicate this.

I had almost the exact same problem in ChatZilla 0.9.36 for Firebird using
20031010 unofficial Win32. Also had same problem in View Source. It appears to
be random, as it's normal about half of the time in both.
View Source in web developer extension brings up a new tab with view-source: URL
which is why that works OK.

Also, *** Failed to load overlay chrome://global/content/globalOverlay.xul
is output to stderr.

Suggests a problem with view source window chrome overlay.
I really can't reproduce the bug.

I kept my profile when switching to the current builds. I tried every build from
10/09 onward up to now (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a)
Gecko/20031012 Firebird/0.7+ (aebrahim)).

View Page Source is always ok, no matter whether accessed via the View Menu or
via right clicking.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031012
Firebird/0.7+ (aebrahim)

Problem still appears for me: View Source works once, then never again.
Strange, as my build string is the same as in previous comment. This is on a
clean system: I deled both the MozillaFirebird directory and my Phoenix and
Mozilla directories (even though Mozilla is empty). I'm on WinXP (not SR1) on a
450mHz Pentium II processor.
A tracing debugging version of Firebird would be very useful in that case, along
with a System Internals' Filemon output (under win32). Just a suggestion ...
...and how? I assume I'd need a debug build (i.e., with the --enable-debug in
build configuration), and I assuem Filemon should be in WinXP (somewhere, I've
never met it). So, the question becomes, where do I get a debug build and then
what?
Sysinternal's Filemon is here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml
"This monitoring tool lets you see all file system activity in real-time. It
works on all versions of WinNT/2K/XP, Windows 9x/Me, Windows XP 64-bit Edition,
and Linux."
This is the file monitor output for JUST the crash, nothing before or after.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031008
Firebird/0.7+ (aebrahim)

Win2k SP 4.
I checked in the first part on what is needed to make the view source a good
toolkit citizen.
But:
Save as, Print, Find won't work, there is still code refactoring work.
marking fixed for now.
