I tested with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
I also had that crash with 1.4 final englisch
Steps to reproduce:
1. click this
<http://de.openoffice.org/doc/schulungsmaterial/calc/calc-einfuehrung.html>
expected: page will be opened
actual: mozilla hangs, PC also, new start possible only with
"power of / power on"
another possibility
11. Open MOZILLA BROWSER
12. Open MOZILLA MAIL
13. create a mail with a.m. Link in it
14. save mail
15. view mail in "drafts"- folder
16. Rightclick on link, "open in new window"
17. change to browser window
18. change TAB to a.m. URL
in this moment my PC hangs
This issue is 100% reproducible with my WIN98 PC (PIII, 667 MHz, 128MB) but not
on the PC of m wife (PIII, 400 MHz, 256MB, WIN98)

worksforme, current linux trunk build...
We could use a bit more information here. The fact that the OS hangs points to
an OS-level or driver problem rather than a Mozilla one. Are you using an
nVidia video card by any chance? If so, are your drivers up to date?

Hi,
I checked with a native "test-profile" with the same result: MOZILLA hangs.
My Graphic Controller: ATI RAGE 128 XPERT2000 (German),
Driver:
C:\WINDOWS.000\System\ATI2VXAA.VXD
C:\WINDOWS.000\System\ATI2DRAA.DRV
C:\WINDOWS.000\System\VMM32.VXD
I will check for a more actual driver version

My tests confirmed your suspect. I installed the latest ATI driver, and now
MOZILLA will no longer hang on the URL. But now the quality (on that special
page) is very bad, pls see the attached screenshot with the white freckles int
the black "OpenOffice".

I changed severitiy in accordance to new findings.
Pls. feel free to close this bug, if the "freckles problem" seems to be without
interest, but I thing it might be useful to check the rendering engine.
I saw some more:
When the OOO brand logo is loaded, at first "OfficeOrg" is shown in blue (as it
should be), then it changes to "black", and the freckles appear.
All works fine when I open the (rather big) image in MOZILLA with "show image"
from the page.
It is no general problem to show the image. If I open it with "IrfanView" and
change size to 642x202px (as in the OOo-page), it will be shown fine.

Severity: critical → minor
Summary: mozilla hangs on that URI → mozilla hangs on that URI with obsolete driver for ATI RAGE 128 XPERT2000

Hi,
the image on the original page has been replaced, but it still shows problems.
Might have to do with transparency or the image?
On
http://de.openoffice.org/doc/schulungsmaterial/writer/basiskurs-writer.html
you still find the original big image.

Cannot reproduce the problem with
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; de-AT; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
Suspect it's graphics driver related. (Here: Latest inofficial beta Rage 128
driver for WinXP.) If you already had this one:
<http://www.3dcenter.de/downloads/treiber-rage128.php> (build 8006) you're
probably out of luck. (I, BTW, have an issue with "my" driver as well: If
Windows sees more than 376 MB of RAM, OpenGL hardware acceleration just stops
working. No memory errors to be found. I'll get rid of that POS card as soon as
I replace the mo/bo with something more modern, the current P2L97-DS can't take
power hungry AGP cards.)

I tested some other browsers:
OPERA
Both more or less normal
http://de.openoffice.org/doc/schulungsmaterial/writer/basiskurs-writer.html
a little with "stairs"
NN4.73
http://de.openoffice.org/doc/schulungsmaterial/writer/basiskurs-writer.html
Shown quite normal
http://de.openoffice.org/doc/schulungsmaterial/calc/calc-einfuehrung.html
Black Background
Phoenix 04 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021029
Phoenix/0.4
Both look fine
IE6
Both look fine
Result: problem with ugly images is only visible with my MOZILLA (and NN4.73).
