Sorry if this is a DUP, I search for 'caret' and nothing came up that I could
see relating to this new behavior.

I'm pretty sure this is a regression from bug 98564.

Seen on Firebird and Seamonkey builds starting 11-16-2003.

When I type text into a textfield, and then backspace, there is a cursor/caret
glyph on the screen.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Type fffff into a textfield.
2. Backspace all the way to the left.
3. Look at the blinking caret/cursor (correct) and see there's a remnant a few
pixels to the right of it.

I'll attach a screenshot.

Testcase.

To exhibit the bug, enter all 2's, such as:

2222222222

then backspace and you'll see the bug.	It seems to do with the height of the
characters and their interaction with the textfield.
Your test case works fine for me. I get no problems.

Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031116
Firebird/0.7+

There is a similar bug filed for this in mailnews,
Bug 226244 Cursor appears in wrong place in text

I´ve tried your testcase,

I can reproduce this bug 100% with 11/19-08 under XP.
This is a very visible regression (only on Win XP?) that occurs in textareas,
when composing mails etc. Requesting blocking 1.6b.
Flags: blocking1.6b?
Not just XP. Obvious in win98se as well.
I think we should back out the change from bug 98564. The old behavior of
nudging the caret in a bit was somewhat ugly, but I suspect that this is so
clearly visibly a bug that it is going to be noticed by a lot more users.

Kin said he can try to look into this bug but it's unlikely he'll be able to get
to it within our 1.6beta schedule.
Flags: blocking1.6b? → blocking1.6b+
the bug was backed out so this regression should be fixed now.
