User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031029 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031029 i installed mozilla1.6a fresh and used a new profile. When I do this and attempt to search from the address bar, it searches the following url: http://search.netscape.com/cgi-bin/search?search=search_term_here I believe this is not the search url for any of the search engines listed when you go to preferences and look at Internet Search. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Mozilla 1.6a fresh and use a new profile 2. Type a search term into the address bar 3. Click the search button Actual Results: http://search.netscape.com/cgi-bin/search?search=search_term_here Expected Results: Mozilla should have gone to whatever the default search engine is supposed to be. when i type the search term and the menu drops down with options. There is no favicon to the left of the Search XXXXXX for and if i press enter when it's highlighted on the Search XXXXXX for it wont search. I have to click the search button to the right of the address bar.
After further research, I wasn't using a new profile. I was using an old one which was under my root user. So I guess this issue has to do with upgrading old user profile to the new available search engines.
Peter, can you please re-test this with a build after today's? (e.g. with the upcoming 1.6 final if you don't use nightlies) Bug 225490 just changed the default search engine, netscape search is not in Mozilla anymore. As an alternative, if you are already convinced (see comment #1) that this bug is not valid, then please resolve it or at least state it clearly.
i re-tested on todays nightly and this is not an issue anymore.
