Choosing threaded view from View / Messages / Threaded expands all message threads

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Click on Date column header to sort by date (or use other method to unthread
messages)
2.  Click on View / Messages / Threaded

Actual Results:  
All message threads are expanded

Expected Results:  
All message threads should be maintained in their prior state, or be collapsed
by default if prior state isn't defined.

I have experienced this bug in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7)
Gecko/20040616.
