Details

User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113

FTP (not the Mozilla incarnation, but the Linux FTP utility) types out the
"welcome.msg" and the ".message" ascii text file(s) (if present) when entering a
(sub)directory. Unfortunately Mozilla does not automatically type out these
files. Would it be too much to ask that Mozilla be modified to automatically
type out the "welcome.msg" and the ".message" file(s) (if any) upon entering a
(sub)directory? This would mean that Mozilla (in FTP:// mode) would behave in a
more friendly and uniform manner compatible with stand-alone FTP. Thank you.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Put some ascii text in "welcome.msg" and ".message" in FTP directory of some-url
2.Type FTP://some-url in Mozilla Window
3.Verify that the contents of "welcome.msg" and ".message" are not typed out
4.Type ftp some-url
5.Verify that the contents of "welcome.msg" and ".message" are typed out
6.Verify that ".message" is not typed out from subdirectories by Mozilla
7.Verify that ".message" is typed out from subdirectories by standalone FTP.
Actual Results:
The Linux FTP stand-alone utility types out the contents of "welcome.msg" and
".message" upon entering a (sub)directory. The Mozilla FTP:// displayed the
directory or subdirectory together with the name "welcome.msg" but did not type
out automatically the contents of "welcome.msg" or of ".message" The ".message"
file was not even shown to be in the (sub)directory by Mozilla FTP://

Expected Results:
It "would be nice" if Mozilla FTP:// behaved the same way as Linux Standalone
FTP utility, namely, it typed out the contents of "welcome.msg" upon signing on
and then typed out the contents of ".message" whenever "/cd"ing to a (sub)directory.

None needed.
