Details
BUILD: Firefox 0.8 on Linux
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Point firefox to a file it doesn't know how to handle (I used a .ps file)
2) Move the resulting "Opening" dialog over (grab its titlebar and drag, or
whatever your WM suppports).
3) Check the "Do this automatically" checkbox
EXPECTED RESULTS: Checkbox is checked
ACTUAL RESULTS: Checkbox is checked and the window is repositioned in "alert
position" over the browser window that spawned it.
Windows moving about of their own accord is extremely disconcerting...

This occurs only with GTK2+XFT builds, not GTK1 builds.

Ali, are you sure about that? I didn't think bz used GTK2...

Well at least on my machine I'm only seeing this bug on GTK2 (tested FC1 a few
months ago and FC2 right now). GTK1 builds don't move the dialog back to the
center when the box is checked.
As for bz, I can't vouch for what he was/wasn't using...

I was using whatever the default firefox 0.8 download was. Chances are, it was
in fact GTK2.

So the symptoms for this are different now... We no longer reposition to alert position, but if you check and uncheck the checkbox the window crawls up the screen by about double the titlebar width each cycle.

I'm not seeing this behavior at all. Probably been fixed long ago.

Closing GTK2 related bugs since we removed GTK2 support at the beginning of 2018 in bug 1278282. Probably best to open a new bug in the unlikely event that any of these are still relevant.
