This is a very annoying bug which can be duplicated with yahoo java chat or any
page for that matter that uses meta refresh.
To duplicate: go into any yahoo java chat room and either start chatting, or
leave the window in the background and do something else. Yahoo uses a meta
refresh function in a seperate frame to load it's ads every 4 minutes or so.
When chatting and this ad refreshes (whether it's actually there or not, the
meta refresh command remains) it takes focus away from the chat window, or any
other window you might be working on. This is very annoying when chatting
because the chat window will lose focus while typing/chatting. This does not
happen in internet explorer, and is not expected behavior.

I don't think this is limited to Firefox, as I have seen this happen with
various versions of Mozilla (1.6 and 1.7, but going back to at least 1.2) on
Linux, Solaris and Irix using various window managers (mostly MWM derivatives
and afterstep in focus-folows-mouse mode). Additionally, this bug may have
similar security implications as 124750 and therefore should have at least
"major" severity, as one may type passwords in forms in browser windows that are
covered or otherwise hidden if the window losing the focus was a mozilla or
firefox window as well, since in those cases the change of focus frequently is
internal to mozilla only and does not affect the window manager.
Another highly annoying aspect of this bug is that it sometimes is difficult to
pry the focus away from the window that has stolen it. Sometimes I have to
change focus back and forth between various Mozilla windows, but in more severe
cases, I have to take the focus away to another application (e.g. an xterm), and
in some rare cases I could not fix this problem except by closing the
focus-grabbing window.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10
I'm experiencing this also, with PR1.0 on WinXP SP2. It's not just on meta
refreshes. It seems to steal focus whenever a page loads. For example, I have
two windows open to two separate pages. I click a link on the first page, then
switch windows to read the second page while the link loads in the first window.
When the link does load in the first window, that window steals focus.
I have seen this before on earlier builds, but I haven't seen it at all
recently, until upgrading from the September 10 build to PR1.0. This is a large
enough annoyance that I've considered going back to 0.9. When your windows
switch suddenly, you can end up typing things in the wrong place or even closing
the wrong window.

Updating fields per previous comments and personal experience. I have switched
back to 0.8 because of this.
I have also noticed that with, say, "open links in background", the tab in the
background does not steal focus from other windows--the tab must be in the
foreground.
OS: Linux → All
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: Mozilla gets focus when webpage auto-reloads → Mozilla gets focus when webpage page loads/reloads in current tab

I believe I'm seeing this as well in the 10-06 Fx build (winXP)
Not sure what page causes it, i suspect it may be Gmail's auto refresh, or else
some other page which auto refreshes to cycle ads.

Not able to reproduce this anymore on my WinXP trunk build
(Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041214)
This is also listed as Debian Bug#292049 for the mozilla-firefox package.
Applications should stay in the background until I want them!

I can confirm this on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2)
Gecko/20050320 Firefox/1.0+

This works for me and three others. If you can reproduce this feel free to
reopen it.
