When we select Arabic(IBM-864) the font size changes, but if we select Western
(ISO-8859-1),Armenican (ARMSCII-8) or any other the font size remains as the
default one.


Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1)Click View->Character Encoding->Customize
2)Click on Arabic(IBM-864) then click "Add"
3)Click on Armenican (ARMSCII-8) or any other and click "Add"
4)Click "OK"
5)Click Veiw->Character Encoding->Arabic(IBM-864),font size changes.
6)Click View->Character Encoding->Western (ISO-8859-1),comes back to its original.

Actual Results:  
The font size changes

Expected Results:  
The font size should not change

This is not only with Arabic or Armenian, but with most of the encodings in the
list. The font-size doesn't change, the font does. This is probably because not
all fonts can display all encodings. A related bug: forms are erased on
switching character encoding.

Confirmed on Firefox 1.0 on Linux 2.6.7/Debian testing.

Tested Configuration & Build:
MS Virtual PC 2004 (Memory: 256MB allocated, Firefox 1.5.1, OS Win 2000)
Also Tested on Firefox: 1.5 rv 1.8,Hardware: PC,OS: Windows XP

The bug exists for Arabic(IBM-864) encoding but not for Armenian(ARMSCII-8. See attachment google_240870.jpg for visual proof. The other character encodings on which this bug was tried to replicate are Hebrew(ISO 8859-8-I),Hebrew(IBM-862), Hindi(MacDevanagari), Baltic(ISO 8859-13), Farsi(MacFarsi).

The only place where we see a jump in the font size is if we use try to emulate IE in Firefox 1.5.1 using IE Tab (1.0.7)extension. Pasting the default link of Firefox (http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)
and viewing the page through IE Tab results in a jump in font size. Please see attached screenshot of a sample view of the homepage of microsoft.

Also, a javascript error occurs with the default page reverting to the state as shown by the pics(javascript_240870.jpeg and firefox1_240870.jpeg)in the attachments section

Overall, this bug exists on the Arabic(IBM 864) character encoding

These also applies for most of the east asian character encodings and also happens for Thunderbird. This is an core issue.

...therefore not Windows-only. Changing OS to "All".

We have per-script default font sizes (that you can change in the prefs) and the encodings have a script affiliation. I'd say this is by design.
