Seen using Thunderbird and Seamokey builds from 05/24. Asa reports first seeing
this in builds from the evening of the 18th.

Try to break a part the quoted reply by hitting enter. line breaks don't work at
all within the quoted part. 

It looks like the line return is acting like a backspace character

A build from the morning of May 18th doesn't have this problem. A build from
late that night does according to Asa.
this makes mail unusable for composition.

the target time period that touched a lot of layout (Bug #241058)

See bug 241058 comment 29.  Does making that change help here?
This is a smoketest blocker and we should close the tree until it's fixed or
we've got a pretty good handle on what caused it and who is gonna fix it.
