Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040731 Firefox/0.9.1+ Phia, i can't confirm it with your addressed URLs. But I have the same problem with http://www.heise.de/newsticker/. The favicon is never shown within the bookmarks toolbar even after reloading the page multiple times.

I have this problem with gmail - nice envelope item showing in the tab bar and in the URL bar, but in the bookmarks toolbar, shows the generic google G icon. I do have TBE installed in case that matters. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.1+
I see the same problems with www.heise.de or www.zonelabs.com - but not only in the toolbar but also in the bookmarks menu as well as site bar. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040810 Firefox/0.9.1+

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040917 Firefox/0.10 Favicons for amazon, oxfordreference and zonelabs are now stored in personal toolbar. Problems with heise.de favicon seem to result from bug 252401 as the icon has a size of 21.9 KB.

Hello, I did some testing and experimenting with the favicons, and I think I found the conditions when Firefox doesn's show the favicon in the personal toolbar or the bookmarks sidebar. This happens when the .ico library contains TWO icons (a 16x16 AND a 32x32 version): the favicon is shown in the Firefox address bar, but NOT next to the bookmarks (in menu or in navigation bar). The reason one would like to have the two versions in the .ico file is to support an IE feature: when dragging an URL on the desktop, windows uses the large icon; if only the 16x16 is present in the file, the icon on the desktop is an ugly enlargement of the 16x16 icon (idem when exploring the favorites folder with "view" settings to "large icons"). You can do the test yourself: choose a site that displays a favicon in the firefox address bar, but not in the personal toolbar or bookmarks menu/sidebar, eg. www.alistapart.com. Open this link then in IE, and drag the URL to the personal links toolbar of IE; now you have the favicon on the toolbar, but not yet in the address bar, so you'll have to reload the browser content by clicking on the link you just created (oh what do we love IE). Now drag the favicon/url from the adress bar onto the deskop, and you will see the favicon, but in its larger and smooth 32x32 appearance. Try the same with a favicon that functions well in firefox (eg. yahoo). You'll see that this shortcut icon appears ugly on the windows desktop, since it's the enlargement of the unique 16x16 version in the .ico file. Tested on: XP pro, IE 6.0, Firefox 1.0.1 (I'm very new to bugzilla and how this works, so no clue whether this is the right place to post. Thanks for redirecting if this is not the case.)

None of my favorite bookmark icons show in the bookmark toolbar. This is a major hassle, as I previously used these as an easy way to access frequently visited sites. Please fix it. Thanks!

normally, you can show the favicon on the personal toolbar with another click. currently, the only one i cannot make it appear is www.meebo.com (or any other page from meebo).

I'm going to mark this bug as duplicate of the slightly newer bug 252540, because the latter is more general and seems to have more "popularity".
