User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040616 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040616 In Mozilla 1.7 (and 1.8a1) on Windows Server 2003, when I choose to use the Modern theme either in the Preferences Dialog or View -> Apply Theme -> Modern and restart Mozilla, restarting indeed switches to the modern theme, but a second restart of Mozilla always switches me back to the Classic theme. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Mozilla 1.7 or 1.8a1 on Windows Server 2003 (NOTE: the problem does NOT happen on my Windows XP Professional machine) either over a 1.6 install or a clean install. 2. Start Mozilla and choose View -> Apply Theme -> Modern (also happens if you change theme using Preferences dialog). 3. Restart Mozilla. 4. Restart Mozilla again. Actual Results: 2. Get message box telling me that my settings will take effect after I restart Mozilla. 3. After first restart, the Modern theme is indeed being used. (NOTE: if I look in my prefs.js, there is a line that reads user_pref("general.skins.selectedSkin", "modern/1.0"); .) 4. After second restart, Mozilla is using the Classic theme again. (NOTE: The line from prefs.js has been removed by Mozilla!) Expected Results: 4. Keep using Modern theme until I change it. When I reinstall Mozilla 1.6, using the Modern theme works as expected. Any time I upgrade to 1.7 or 1.8a1, I get this wacky "switch back to classic theme on every other restart" behavior. Note that bug #231302 may be related (it sounds similar, but not the same).
I also have this problem with Mozilla 1.7/1.8a1 on Windows XP. Maybe Theme-changes aren't written to configuration file.
Would the reporter or someone else please change KEYWORDS to 'classic modern clean-report'?
The problem seems to be away in Mozilla Version 1.8a2!!! Maybe the reporter of this bug can test this on Windows 2003 Server?!
Indeed, the problem appears to be gone with Mozilla Version 1.8a2 on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Woo-Hoo! Thanks for the update, Kay.
