Build Identifier: Thunderbird Version 0.8 (20040913)

used it with KMail on Linux and PMMail on OS/2 and Windows: a filter for
incoming mail that would 1. save the attachments to specific folder and 2. move
the message (and 3. run external program and 4. prompt the user), and it was
very handy. I miss this in Thunderbird, at least the action to save the
attachment(s) to a specified folder

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
missing in filter actions

Expected Results:
one action in new filter dialog: save attachment to folder
OS: Linux → All

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

(In reply to comment #1)
it's still not present in the latest stable thunderbird build (Mozilla/5.0 (X11;
U; Linux i686; de-DE; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050923 Thunderbird/1.0.7), and yes, i
still would appreciate a filter action to save (a specific or all) attachments
to a specified folder
I look for this useful enhancement.
I would definitely find such a feature useful. I receive several emails daily from mailing lists with attachments. I save attachments to folders corresponding to the list from which the message came. It would be great to have this automated.

General attachment handling as a filter action might well be beneficial also in the case of a) removing attachments, or b) running the attachments through some virus checking. See also Bug 80439 for creating a filter action (or criteria) that calls an external program.
.. or detach attachment(s) there.
being able to save attachment automatically would be great. User should be able to choose a directory and probably also if files should be overwritten or not in case a file with the same name already exists or if TB should add something to the file name in that case (e.g. file-1, file-2, etc.).

Another filter action that would be good would be "delete attachment" which could be called after saving it.

This could be usable for: automatic emails containing reports as attachment, podcast which contain the mp3 as an attachment, etc.

I absolutely NEED this feature. Especially the ability to forward the contents of the email to an EXE program on same computer.

Converted from Eudora which can do this - I really miss this feature!
