Putting on PDT+ radar for beta1.

Performance is very important... but we have to move on to final clearup for beta RSN. I'm adding the annotation that this bug will become PDT- for beta1 on 3/3
Whiteboard: [PDT+][Jan Daily] → [PDT+][Jan Daily] w/b minus on 3/3
Per whiteboard transition date of 3/3... we need to shutdown beta1 work, fix regressions, and begin our focus on beta2. I'm changing this to PDT- for beta1
Whiteboard: [PDT+][Jan Daily] w/b minus on 3/3 → [PDT-][Jan Daily] plus for beta2
Scott, performance is an important area that we need to concentrate on. I am setting this M16 (from M14 which is past). Feel free to apply the right milestone.

don't know the right milestone yet... we'll try to put this into perspective with other (particularly performance) bugs

Beta 1 be gone. Changing to beta2.

Putting on beta2 keyword radar since this was "plus for beta2" during beta1 triaging

Target Milestone: M16 → M17
Putting on [nsbeta2-] radar. Not critical to beta2. Feature work taking priority right now.

This is reported by Steve Linke at http://www.macintouch.com/netscape6.html Startup is extremely slow (~45-60 sec) compared to Internet Explorer (~15 sec), and web page rendering doesn't seem much different. (I tried it on a PowerMac 7300/180.) related to this bug (or perhaps it should be a new bug) from Steve Linke (same url as above): Scrolling and manipulating windows is very jerky and slow.

This is also reported by Steve Palm at http://www.macintouch.com/netscape6.html: It took noticeably longer for the program to load.
Target Milestone: M17 → ---
Removing ancient crap from status whiteboard and keywords and replacing with this year's incantations ;) in an attempt to get this bug re-evaluated. Some annecdotal evience: M16 era builds launched in 6 seconds on my G4. The 2001-Feb-01 nightly took 12 seconds, so we have regressed significantly since the early Netscape 6.0 beta timeframe. That's a fast machine, I shudder to think about a slow one, but I note brade quoting the figure of 45 seconds!

I just ran a few clock on the wall tests and startup with today's build (home page set to about:blank) averaged to 9 seconds over 10 attempts. I did the same for M16 release build and the average over 10 attempts was 10 seconds. I see a 1 second improvament since M16 (not that that's anything to smile about). Performed these tests with classic theme on current build and old blue modern on M16.

What is the status of this bug? I also have this same issue on Mozilla 0.9.9 (nightly release) on Mac OS X. It loads faster than the earlier releases but still is longer than it should be. BTW, what is Seamonkey?
