Details
When we load any applet in the Netscape 6, the status bar says "Document Done" and no messages for the applet execution is provided such as "Applet is loading/loaded or running".
For this applet, the browser crashes on the Windows 2000 platform as well. Build ID: 03-17-00 Beta 1
Hey OJI people: can anybody take a look at this bug on any platform and suggest a solution?

this works under mac (applet loaded, applet started, applet reloaded)... perhaps this is in the JDK plugin as opposed to the oji code...

I tried it on Win32, and it works. Sometimes, the browser will display message in the status bar as well. If the applet is loaded too quick, the applet status message may be replaced by the browser status message.
Hey there, bsharma: it looks like we have working status bar messages. Can you tell us more about the environment you're testing this in, please? Otherwise, I'm going to close this as WORKSFORME, since it appears to work on Windows for Stanley. I suppose that good supporting data would include the kind of PC, speed, and a URL for the Java applet you're running. If you could find a big Java applet that takes a while to load and set up (so that you have time to see the status messages), that would be great.
I tried 05/12/00 and 05/15/00 commercial build for windows, but none of them seem to install the java. I selected the "custom" option and the install program hangs when it comes to installing java. Please let know which build you used to verify this bug and I will use the same.
Stanley, can you comment on this install problem? bsharma: Stanley Ho of the JDK group at Sun had told me that there were some problems with the JRE installer, which could explain the problems you're running into. I'm hoping Stanley will be able to help with comments here.

The installation problem is in the J2SE 1.3 RC1 installer. This has since been fixed, so we should be able to resolve the installation problem in Netscape 6 PR2. In the meantime, you may download J2SE 1.3 FCS from java.sun.com, and apply the OJI plug-in patch manually.

Running NON-debug mozilla from 23 May 2000 with Java Plugin from 22 May 2000, we DO see status messages. We're still waiting on approval to ship this latest Java Plugin over to netscape. Ed

The latest Java Plug-In patch has been sent to Frank Petitta at Netscape. I shipped it on Friday, May 27, 2000. I'd love to know when it gets put into the daily commercial installer so that I know when everybody at both Sun and Netscape are using the same binaries.
