Details

Currently, Mozilla selects fonts based on the "language group" of the document,
and this is derived from the charset. In the future, we need to look at the HTTP
Content-Language header and the <HTML> or <BODY> element's LANG attribute. We
also need to look at any LANG attributes in other elements. This issue is
covered by:

However, it would be even better if we selected fonts based on the Unicode
range of the characters. The font prefs UI would then be more like IE5's, which
allows users to select fonts for particular Unicode ranges. This would allow,
for example, the selection of one font for the Hebrew range and a different
font, possibly with a different base size, for the ASCII range. Of course, the
Han range would require further disambiguation, and for that we would continue
to use the language info.

So, this bug is specifically for the Unicode range thing (NOT the language).
