Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071008 Firefox/2.0.0.8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071008 Firefox/2.0.0.8

On another computer I have updated Firefix 2.0.0.7 to 2.0.0.8 by running the full setup. After that was done, I started Firefox. It then said that the partial update failed and the full setup needs to be downloaded. Huh? While it did so, I checked the version info and it said "2.0.0.8" - so what does it want to download now?! It downloaded 2.0.0.8 again. There was no way to stop it. Closing Firefox made it continue the download after a restart. Pausing the download kept the menuitem saying "continue download". So then, when it was done downloading, the usual dialogue came up that I should restart Firefox now. So did I and the update was being installed. This really took a while and when it was done - hurray, nothing has changed because that version was already there before!

Well, actually, the first time starting it crashed, but that did it too on my own computer. 2.0.0.8 seems to test the Quality Feedback agent once when it's installed. But if this stays the only crash, I really don't care. I'm getting used to it...

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install 2.0.0.7 before the time 2.0.0.8 was released (right, this cannot be reproduced anymore now)
2. Install 2.0.0.8 full setup
Actual Results:
See above.

Expected Results:
I'd expect an application that is smart enough to find out that there's an update for the installed version, that it's also smart enough to find out that that version is already installed meanwhile.

Also, I'd like to be able to really stop and cancel any download in progress. This isn't an issue on our DSL line, but it can be on other connections like Modem, GPRS etc.
Okay, it came like it should - right now, Firefox 2.0.0.8 on my computer (I already upgraded from the full setup today, it's always good to have it on disk) reported the availability of version 2.0.0.8 and recommended my to restart Firefox.

What is going on today? Can we expect a new version 2.0.0.8 every day now?
Yves, did comment 2 resolve your issue?
I don't remember anymore what I did back then. Maybe it helped, could be that I tried it out. This was a one-timer, too, afair.
If you're not satisfied the problem is gone after 4-5 subsequent updates, you could change status to incomplete rather than WFM. Perhaps that's the idea you are search for in bug 367774. But even there, you're asking to prove a negative, that the problem is in gone given the possibility/probability that the problem IS in fact gone from the product you are testing? You can't, with 101% certainty.
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
Carsten, what do you think?
The problem as reported would be fixed by bug 485113 in that when the installer runs it would always be able to remove the update being downloaded since it would be in a common location so duping.
