User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20090908 Shredder/3.1a1pre Selection moves to wrong message when leaving a folder and coming back into it after messages in this folder were deleted by retention policy. Thus, when you come back into the first folder wrong message gets redisplayed and is marked as read (if it was unread before). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set mailnews.remember_selected_message to true 2. Set retention policy of specific folder to 'Delete all but the most recent XXX message' 3. Select a message in the message list of this folder and go into another folder 4. Wait until the message count in the first folder exceeds the number specified in the retention policy 5. Come back to the first folder (note, that oldest messages were deleted) Actual Results: Wrong message gets redisplayed and is marked as read (if it was unread before) Expected Results: The initial message gets redisplayed I think this is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232967 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=505044 . I'm sure it is important to fix this bug, just because one can easily lost important mail just by accidentally mark it as read (especially when using 'Threads with unread' view).

I'm using POP3 accounts. Not sure if this is reproducible with IMAP.

Please, can anybody confirm this issue? This bug makes 'Delete all but the most recent XXX message' almost unusable, because the selection goes to wrong message every time you enter the folder (if there are new messages and the overall count of the messages in the folder exceeds the number specified in the retention policy. Fully reproducible in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.2pre) Gecko/20100329 Lanikai/3.1b2pre

I'm occasionally seeing what I believe is the same issue: the wrong message is selected when select my inbox, which has various filters automatically moving messages out of it. This may be helpful in locating the issue: it appears that the message that is selected is the nth in the folder, where n is the number of the message that was selected in the folder that I just left. I.e., on the most recent case, I had the 365th message (sorted by date) in my 'bugmail' folder selected, and when I selected my 'Inbox' folder, the 365th message (sorted by date) there was selected.
