Using N6 RTM 11/8 on WinNT 4.0.
Symptom:
1) do a Search (e.g. for messages that have Sender robinag AND To ekrock)
2) search process begins
3) when it hits a folder lacking a Summary file, it tries to build a summary
file for that folder; it then gets in somekind of infinite loop where you keep
seeing in Status "Building summary file for Amiga ..." and "Document: Done"
alternating extremely quickly (almost too fast to read--they blur together) over
and over again.
4) once that infinite loop has been entered, if you click the mouse cursor
within the Search window, N6 kidnaps the mouse cursor so that it can no longer
enter the Windows task bar
To escape from this situation, use CTRL-ALT-DELETE to bring up the Task Manager
(which takes possession of the mouse cursor), then cancel out of it. You regain
control over the mouse cursor, but this isn't a workaround for the underlying
problem that the search never completes.
I have had this problem repeatedly on my machine this week. Can repro for you if
you want to drop by my cube.

Same Problem:
On Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5.0a; hi, Mom) Gecko/2003071814
and using Windows 2000 Pro,
I have over 200 folders with average 5 to 30 subfolders each and 100-1500
messages (totally to 1MB to 15MB each). When I search message on "choose
folders" which contain all subfolders, Moz searched and then hit a folder to be
rebuit a summary of the folder. Moz hung on that folder. I stopped it and closed
moz. I manually found the folder under Moz mail path. I noticed the folder lost
.msf (moz summary file). I also noticed other folders lost .msf. I renamed the
folder by add .txt to the folder. I started moz and click on the folder to be
compacted or rebuilt. It rebulded msf. But Moz did not show messages on other
folder losting msf. I have to rename the folder and moz recompacted it.
I noticed the search message processing causing corrupted flags on folder after
removed .msf and left the search processing hung. I did click on other folders
display no messages (actually moz displayed them as ok before start search
message task.)
steps to get a queer characteristic processing on TOOLS/SEARCH MESSAGES:
1. open mail and newsgroup.
2. click on foldername, foldername2, foldername3, and foldername4. Moz showed
messages on all folders.
3. click tools. Click search Message.
4. Pull search message in folders: to "choose all folders"
5. Check on "search subfolders".
6. type "party" in sender entry or whatever.
7. Click search button
8. the task is processing with status bar of either " searching" or "building
summary on foldername".
9. The status bar hung on "building summary on foldername for a couple of minutes.
10. Click stop button.
11. click on foldername, foldername2, foldername3 and foldername4. Moz did not
show messages on foldername and foldername2 but showed on foldername3 and
foldername4.
12. close moz.
13. Using MS explorer, open moz user mail folder. Look for foldername and
foldername2 having no .msf. Rename foldername to foldername.txt. Also on
foldername2.
14. start moz mail and newsgroup.
15. click on foldername.txt. Moz compacted the folder.
16. redo step 2 to 9 and foldername4 was caught hung on rebuilding summary.
stop the message search.
17. click foldername4. moz did not display messages. redo on step 12 to 15 for
foldername4.
18. Moz did not accomplish that issue with rebulding summary. There is something
wrong on that. I see lots of folders losting msf and required to use MS explorer
to rename them to be recompacted.
