could we show the version number and the build ID on the splash screen?
that would be very useful if you have more than one version of mozilla
installed. Additionally the space in the bottom of the splash screen would be
used - it looks very "unfinished" in the current state.
very probably the wrong component, bud didn't know which to choose!

Sorry, accidentally attached to the wrong bug.

hmm. as far as I know, we don't have the capability to do that right now, all
we do is show a static image, so this is more than changing the existing build
system and hence not a build config issue.
punting to browser-general to see if asa has an idea who should get this.

Showing other status messages on the splash screen is bug 35866. Adding the
version number/build ID would be nice.

Why is this bug blocking bug 35866 ? shouldnt it be the other way around? This
bug should depend on 35866

hmm... this is actually a bug, too, not only a RFE:

This happens on Windows and BeOS, I guess on Linux, too: approx. 20 pixels are
cut off at the bottom of the splash-image, looks like it's intentional to show
some progress, but for now it's only blank, which looks ugly.

The splash screen isn't supported at all any more on the "new toolkit" platform that all Mozilla apps are using now, so we can't fix this.
