The script on the above mentioned page should provide a login form for online
banking. This works in NS4.x but in Mozilla there is just a message that I
should change to IE5 or NS4 (yeah, right). There are formal errors in the
script, but nothing that makes Mozilla complain in the JS console.
I had telephone contact with a helpdesk person from this bank but he didn't let
me through to anyone who actually knew something about the site. So I'm filing
this as a bug: it may be Mozilla at fault, and if it isn't, I hope to have some
more info to what exactly is going wrong here.

Problems like this normally occur because of incorrect browser-sniffing
at the site. I would like to look at the HTML, but I can't gain access
to it. Most likely, they are looking for particular userAgent strings
and not finding them, so they put up this message.
Reassigning to Evangelism component -
If anyone can find the HTML in the .asp page doing the browser-sniffing,
please attach it to this bug; thanks. Also, a question for Reinout:
what build ID of Mozilla were you using? Was there ever a version of
Mozilla that worked at this site?

How is it that you can't access the HTML? I can save main.asp and have a look at
the contents. Because I didn't see a browser sniffing script in it I thought it
would have to do with the way the Javascript is called. Especially the BODY
attribute ONLOAD="" strikes me as weird but then again I don't know squat about
Javascript.
Could it be that browser sniffing is performed behind the screen? (no pun
intended :)

Sorry, I forgot to answer your questions.
No, I haven't ever used Mozilla successfully with this site. The version used
was 0.8.1 and some older builds on Linux.

ASP pages can do server side sniffing and we will never see it in the page.
Reinhout, can you contact them and ask them to support Mozilla and Netscape 6.
You can use the English version of the Evangelism Letter at
http://mozilla-evangelism.bclary.com/letter/. If you would care to translate it,
I can point you to where you can find the letter templates...

I wouldn't mind to take half an hour or so to translate the letter into Dutch.
However the part about browsing appliances seems to apply mostly to the US
market, I doubt anyone over here would care about supporting the Gateway
Connected TouchPad or set top boxes as they're not even sold here AFAIK. The
arguments should be a bit more focused on local markets.

ASN helpdesk tells me they've outsourced the online banking service to the SNS
bank so they can't do much about it themselves. But he did give me a new contact
person to ask about this problem: cornelieke.rupert-smit@asnbank.nl .
Can this bug be assigned to me, or do you want to "keep" all europe-west issues
yourself, Tristan?

This is a message I got back from the SNS servicedesk. Basically they are
saying that they will provide technical support for the ASN bank website
starting February 2002. I will contact them shortly.
