Details

1) Mozilla is trademarked and copyrighted by Netscape.
2) Mozilla is the Netscape mascot - and has been long before Mozilla.org. People
have always thought of Mozilla and Netscape as interchangable words.
3) Mozilla has been a green lizard for many years. The Giant (russian ad
campaign artist) guy was watching too much Jurrasic park when he made the red
mozilla (RED RAPTOR?! please.)
4) Mozilla is supposed to be an open community. Not a community where marketing
and a mere few people decide the color and fate of the Mozilla icon.
5) The mozilla icon (color/look/etc) is not licensed openly!!!

Who cares what color it is (I've seen blue Mozilla icons, does it really
matter?). Let's kill it!

Proper resolution of this bug requires mozilla.org to create a new mascot and
get a new domain name, as well as many code/documentation changes to reflect the
name change.
Ah do believe, until the reporteer can come up with a better alternative by
himself, he can stick this bug where the sun don't shine!
I'm surprised that more people aren't shocked that Netscape owns Mozilla.org as
well as the Mozilla mascot that this great open community embraces. Sure, I love
Mozilla - don't get me wrong, and I actually love the red mozilla (i've got a
couple obey giant stickers from before the red mozilla was created, and i
appreciate the style of art); but I just dislike seeing an open community
embrace someone else's mascot as their own. That's like using Mickey Mouse as
your mascot and then acting shocked years later when Disney shuts you down
entirely.
I don't see this as a problem. Eazel is copyrighted too and Ximian of course.
And isn't Linux copyrighted by Linus? We don't need a new name. To make Mozilla
really Netscape independet, we need this damn doublelicense. A GPLed Mozilla
would make me sleep better. Cause GPL is a one way ticket, it can never be used
for nonfree Applications, so Mozilla would stay free forever. And we could fork
it, if Netscape someday looses interest in Opensource. I don't think that this
will happen, but I also don't want do be dependent on the goodwill of a company.
:) So what is the status of Mozilla relicensing?
It would be also great for Gecko. Some really great Gecko based browsers could
appear to make Gecko the most used Engine out there.
And I think it would be the best thing, Netscape could do.
*yawn*
If we don't need a new name, why do we need a new mascot?
