when i select an item within the thread pane, then hit the Page Down [or, Page
Up] key, the thread pane does scroll down [or up] a page --however, the
previously selected item is no longer visible. it should be, at least from a
usability perspective, since that way i can tell (1) that i did indeed
successfully paged down and (2) i can see what i was last looking at [gives an
important point of reference, navigation-wise].
this is something that worked in 4.x on win32. [unfortunately, on linux/4.x the
pageDown and pageUp keys don't do anything in the thread pane --and on mac/4.x
the behavior is the same as 6.x.]
i'll attach some screenshots to illustrate the behavior.

Marking nscatfood because I would like to see this fixed. It would help users
know that it paged down once instead of wondering whether it paged down twice or
more.

methinks this bug is kind of like the mailnews [threadpane] analogy to bug 11751.
I would hate to see this bug fized without also fixing bug 75866, or else a lot
of folks will be marking messages Read that they didn't intend to as they scroll
up and down.

This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state.
If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way.
If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar).
If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state.
