Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9) Gecko/20010505
BuildID: 2001050515

When I open the mail client, the newsgroup marks 100 plus messages.
After a while the newsgroup marks (300+) messages.
When I click it, the number goes to 100 plus. (the same number it had on startup)

I was thinking this may have something to do with expired messages, so I cleaned
them all, but still the problem occurs.

If I go changing menus, after a while it gets back to 300+ .. It almost doubles ..

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open the mail client, and see the number of mails that the newsgroup marks.
Wait a few seconds. It should go up
2.When clicking the newsgroup The number gets to the "real" (I guess) number of
messages.
3.Change some folders, or reclick a couple of times on the NG icon, and it can
go back to the higher number .. .. It almost doubles ..

Actual Results: Showed two diferent values for the total of messagens in the
newsgroup.
One at a time.

Expected Results: It should always report the correct number o mails in the
newsgroup at the time.

I don't know if this information is returned by the newsgroup server or if it's
mozilla that does the calculous. either way, something ain't right.

Notice that I cleaned all the expired messages so it shouldn't be that number ..

Number shown at startup: 179
Number shown a few seconds afer: 330
Number show after clicking: 179
Found a way to reproduce.. (new)

If I click 'Get Msg' button, it goes back to 330 messages. When I click the
newsgroup's icon again, it get's back to 179.

Still not sure if this is a mozilla or newsgroup problem.. some feedback ppl ?
There might be multiple causes/bugs here, you might want to take a look at bug
71728, I've got several news count bugs listed there. Seems like you are
running into a couple.
Specifically, I think you are hitting both bug 34406 and bug 24592.
