Can't download the Java runtime plugin. The URLs to FTP this plugin are messed
up and it seems to assume I want Windows stuff. No way man. I'm getting really
frustrated with this. In general Mozilla has been running like a champ, but this
problem is mighty inexcusable.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

I think this is a Netscape problem more than your problem but the chain of
events starts with Mozilla 0.9 and there are likely incorrect embedded URLs in
Mozilla.

When I go to pages that require a Java plugin I get redirected
to a page that offers two buttons, download Java for Windows or download Java
for Unix.

I take the Unix button and it tries to download jre3.1.exe from
ftp.netscape.com/pub/english/6.0/linux22.... Well of course it doesn't find it
there because it apparently assumes that it's looking
for a Windows plugin, not a Linux plugin (note the "exe" extension).

Then to add insult to injury I get this warning after it fails to download:

Install Results
Java 2 Plug-in for Linux: Download was unsuccessful. Please try again. The Java
Plug-in is 7.6Mb and will take you 37 minutes to fully download with a 28.8
modem or 19 minutes with a 56K modem. Alternatively, you can download this
plug-in directly from our FTP site at
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/windows/win32/smartupdate/jre13i.exe
for Windows. Please e-mail ftp-plugins@netscape.com if you continue to have
problems. Error encountered -- -235

Notice the WINDOWS oriented stuff in the path. No... that's Linux spelled
"Linux" not "Windows".

Looks like Netscape has yet again messed up their links and directory structure.
All I want to do is download the latest Java plugin. Is that asking so much?
Anyway, I hope you can help out with a fix for this...

Expected Results: Should have downloaded and installed the Java plugin...

If I download Java jpi.xpi and put it in the plugins directory it is not
recognized by Mozilla so some kind of install magic is needed...

Ask your help again. Do you have this problem? I also see this problem about
downloading plugins.
