build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9.2) Gecko/20010726 Netscape6/6.1 POP > Make sure your PC is offline, not connected to the Internet (or any network, just in case that has some kind of effect) > Launch N6.1 by launching Mail directly (not browser first, then Mail) What happens: Mail UI and inbox appear, but toolbar does not finish drawing (several buttons are missing), and you get a permanent hour glass and animating "N" icon as it freezes in that state. You can't do anything.
keywords nsbranch and crash because it is a freeze, and the only way to get out of the freeze is to force a crash with cntl-alt-delete.

Dup of many many bugs, I think the one remaining is assigned to Darin.

do you have a mail start page configured? Does this happen if you disable the mail start page?
Comment 9•23 years ago
|
||
Yes, I left it like it was when installed that is it is linked to http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/start.html Disabeling indeed solves the problem. In other words, if the page cannot be displayed it shouldn't hang.

Is this something we would need to address for 0.9.4? nsenterprise? Hanging on startup of the mail app when not connected to the internet seems rather bad.

my guess is that this is a dup of one of a couple bugs assigned to pav, either bug 92368 or bug 87923 - I'm pretty sure it's not in mail/news code, since it has to do with displaying web pages.

Then at least default Mail/news start up page to something that does not require a connection. Copy the static page to the installation file and link to that page. For the moment.

Bienvenu - What are the chances this is going to be fixed this week? Does this crach occur often enough, that is worthy of nsbranch+?

Since I can't reproduce this, it's not going to be fixed by me. I'm not sure what Pav's status on any of the possible dups is.

0.9.6 does not seem appropiate to me. At least a work around, for example by default display a webpage from the local installation files, instead of a webbased file should be implemented ASAP. Assured crashing on startup does not look very good.

I tried all sorts of ways to reproduce this, none of them successful. I tried on win 2k and nt, but not win95. H. Stokhorst, what os are you running on? What's your configuration? Do you have the sidebar enabled? Are you running Pop3 or IMAP? If pop, do you have it configured to get new mail on startup?
Comment 18•23 years ago
|
||
I do run Windows 95, I do have the sidebar enabled, I have pop3, but I download the messages by pressing the button once all messages in the inbox are displayed. I currently use 2001080110, a later build I installed had too many other problems.

moving to 0.9.7, but is this still happening? It looks like the most recent build we know about is 8/01 which is 3 months ago.

Moving Netscape owned 0.9.9 and 1.0 bugs that don't have an nsbeta1, nsbeta1+, topembed, topembed+, Mozilla0.9.9+ or Mozilla1.0+ keyword. Please send any questions or feedback about this to adt@netscape.com. You can search for "Moving bugs not scheduled for a project" to quickly delete this bugmail.

Also happens for me in both online/offline mode. I'm running 1.2.1

Ok, I was having another problem w/ CTRL+F crashing mozilla, so I deleted the file XUL.mfl in my profile directory and it fixed both problems. They both appeared at the same time.

By the definitions on <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/bug_status.html#severity> and <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?format=guided>, crashing and dataloss bugs are of critical or possibly higher severity. Only changing open bugs to minimize unnecessary spam. Keywords to trigger this would be crash, topcrash, topcrash+, zt4newcrash, dataloss.
