1. Visit http://hermes.mozdev.org/installation.html
2. Click on the 0.2.8 install link
3. Popup asks for install confirmation (part of XPI install engine)
4. XPI installation progress should appear as a pop-up.
What actually happens is that the XPI install progress screen opens up in the
main window instead, but with no content. It also hangs the process which then
needs to be terminated.
I have repeated this and still found the error. This particular xpi file worked
fine in the previous nightly I used (2 days or less ago).

Also doesn't work for themes from x.themes.org.

Looked at bug 98791 .. This could be the same thing... either way the XPI
engine appears somewhat deficient at the moment... will dupe the other to this,
as this one has a little more explaination in.
Re-naming this from "Installing Hermes XPI doesn't work - hangs browser" to
"Installing XPI doesn't work - hangs browser"

Umm.. needless to say I haven't seen this for a very long time.. so I am
proposing that the error that caused this has gone away. Or more likely been fixed.
Marking as fixed.
