Whenever I go to a website requiring HTTP authentication, Firefox opens a dialog box prompting for the username and password.  The dialog box is modal, so I can't switch to another tab to copy and paste the username and password.

I don't think this is a dupe of bug 123913. The HTTP auth dialog is not an alert, so fixing that bug will not fix this.
