Or download the latest version and opt to do the following: create a POP gmail account and either not download anything or download everything which is in the Inbox. This will save you from having to go through the method currently used because everything downloaded will be auto put into a mbox file in the pop account. Then create folders in Pop account or Local Folders account and move emails for sorting purposes. Once a pop account is created you can set up Thunderbird to start up in Offline mode so it does not connect to server. Now you have a choice - either use the pop account folders or use the 'Local Folders' mail account. It makes no difference whether they are stored in the pop account or in Local Folders because either way the emails are stored in mbox file(s) on your computer in the same profile. But it does mean you can still choose to go online and download everything from the server Inbox directly or do the import of mbox routine.
