Thanks for the additional clarification. To clarify more, it sounds like the paper clip is show in the message list, but not showing along with the attachment at the bottom of the message body. That is indeed strange behavior. Unfortunately I'm unable to recreate it on my Ubuntu installation with Thunderbird 137.0.1 Are you using any add-ons? If so, could you try with them disabled?
