When a transparent gif is nested inside an anchor and the CSS a.hover is set to change the background, the background isn't changed correctly "behind" the transparent gif.

The background of the is changing. The background of the is not changing, nor should it -- it has no background set anywhere. The is not as tall as the image in this case, and that is correct -- the should not be affecting the line height.
