Please remove the search bar: we san also search with the location bar, and if you move the search engine manager to Add-ons manager (bug 335781), it'll become completely unnecessary.

FYI, the search bar includes multiple search engines that can be chosen independently of the manager. Also auto-complete happens for several search engines in the search bar that does not happen in the location / awesome bar. The bug you place as blocking in no way related to these pieces of functionality. To make it's functionality redundant you would need to include some new UI in the location/awesome bar, firstly to select different search engines, perhaps similar to the way Firefox for Android implements this.Secondly you would need to include auto-complete functionality in location / awesome bar, the key problem around this is a matter og privacy vs. functionality, Firefox would be sending all your search requests directly to the search engine provider even if the user were just trying to find a web address from their history that could be done completely locally. Food for thought I hope.

(In reply to Elbart from comment #2) > Then do so, what's holding you up? Developers are trying to make Firefox UI cleaner and comfortable, so it was a suggestion for cleaner look.

I don't expect us to fully remove the searchbar, but I know there's ongoing work on making the location bar more pleasant to use for search, and the searchbar may become less visible in the future.
