on the training signup we asked people to say which module they're interested in and we need to send them targeted emails, but I don't know how to separate the list.

Sure, I need to know where the chosen modules data exists in the registration records. Meaning, can we use a simple query in BSD to create the correct audiences for the emails? Also you're creating 4x the work by segmenting this specifically, but I assume you know that and you're OK with that. :)
