Hey hey, The continents on webwewant.mozilla.org don't actually reflect the global continent separations as designed in our mockup. We're now running into labelling issues within PR when speaking to the stats. note - pmac is looking into what maxmind means by its continents and how this might be something that was changed due to the data received.
Also, we're sending the shape/outline data (in JSON format) for each country, and then the client-side JS is combining them into continents. We could send much less data over the wire and have less workload for the client if we sent the continent shapes only, rather then countries. Ali, let me know if I'm wrong about that.
Sean, Those changes are easy enough to make. To confirm, we're moving Russia and Turkey to Asia and coloring the foreign territories of various countries (e.g. Papua and French Guinea with the colors of the continents that they're in, correct. Steve, We could probably do that. Let me look into it once I'm in the office (this time, for certain).

I now see that there are in fact other bits of land that you're considering to be in Europe vs Asia, and never mind the mention of Turkey above, which is in Asia in both maps. If we're going by the mockup, we could just use that to make the necessary changes.
Having chatted with Sean, the main contention appears to be Russia, which when it comes to coloring, is considered part of Europe. Having it be part of Asia is a quick change, though the real question is how maxmind handles Russia and whether it discriminates between its Asian and European parts. Once that becomes clear, we can modify the map accordingly. We can also include the change that Steven proposed in that push, so that the continent paths are appended to the page, without the need to generate them via d3 geo from a topojson file.
We chatted about this on IRC and the outcome was to leave Russia as is - part of Europe. Maxmind does not split Russia into its two continental divides. PR can be informed of this if any questions arise. Everything else is fixed. Thanks all!
