In short, the 'RSS Icon in url bar' add-on is not compatible with Australis. This was reported by a user on SUMO: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997381 After disabling this add-on, customizations were persisted.

Can you reproduce the problem? I tried and didn't see anything break (except the add-on button not showing up at all).

I can't reproduce it either. We can at least mark the add-on incompatible with Fx 29, because it doesn't work as advertised. Other than that, this WORKSFORME. What do you think, Jorge?

I looks like this add-on has been fixed since then, and it's working correctly. Another RSS add-on did break kind of badly and we marked it as incompatible. It's possible the SUMO report was referring to that one instead. Closing this one since there doesn't seem to be any further action to take.
