P2PU, our partner on Webmaker Training, offered us a Google ad (for free). I haven't done it before so would love some assistance. Is this the best resource for specs, or does anyone have other guidelines/best practices to share? https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1704389?hl=en&topic=16339&ctx=topic&path=1713901-1713898-1710534
For instance... Headline: Teach the web Description line 1: Free training from Mozilla Description line 2: Sign up now Display URL: http://mzl.la/training
That's a nice simple starting point that will probably work well. If there are time constraints it's better to get that running now than to worry about details and miss an opportunity (especially as the training launches today). This guide from Google is also useful: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1704392 RE: Display URL (My knowledge here is a bit old, so worth double checking these points with P2PU) * The domain name in the display URL has to match the domain of the page the person is sent to, so we might not be able to use mzl.la URLs * The display URL doesn't have to be real, so you could use webmaker.org/training even if that wasn't a page * But if we did use something like webmaker.org/training we could always make that address a redirect to the sign-up form as well (even though the Google Ad doesn't use the display URL for the navigation) For tracking purposes: * Ask P2PU to "Enable Destination URL auto-tagging." on the ad (they probably would by default, but worth checking) * If they don't want to do this for some reason, we can send the traffic to a variation of the sign-up URL so we can identify this separately. Let me know if this is the case and I can help. Testing the Ad: * In AdWords, you can run multiple headlines and copy for a single ad, and Google will optimize for the one that gets the best response. * But, this takes more time to setup and analyze, so might be more work than is appropriate given the kind offer from P2PU on this. Just flagging up for future reference.
adam, can you see if we still need this? if not, feel free to wontfix
