Details
The Java updater (and presumably its installer) has an on-by-default option to install the ask toolbar and a separate on-by-default option marked "Set and keep Ask as my default search provider".
We need to make sure that this install does not bypass the Firefox sideloaded addon check, that it does not modify any search providers unless the user has agreed to opt-in.
Once the toolbar is installed, the user must still be able to change the search provider and have that option remembered even across restarts.
dmajor can you install this crapware in a suitably safe VM and see what they are actually doing? If they are bypassing the opt-in screen or forcing prefs, please see if you can figure out how.

David, feel free to take bug 1007271. Kris did some testing and couldn't manage to get the Ask Toolbar installed, even when he left all Ask options checked in the installer.
