* Posting a single message is unlikely to be
There will need to be some rule set that measures meaningful engagement as best as possible (e.g. more than x replies, or starting y conversations that get more than z replies).
It may be possible to use the parsing scripts within Metrics Grimoire to transform our mailing list archives into a query-able dataset. https://github.com/MetricsGrimoire/
Other solutions should be investigated and considered too.

On reflection, I think we should kill this.
Contributors use mailing lists, but using a mailing list does not make someone a contributor (in the 'where do we count active contributors to Mozilla' sense of the term).
There is still potentially interesting data here around things like what % of contributors use IRC vs mailing lists which can be explored when we look at Metrics Grimoire, but this is not required for our contributor dashboard.
