Asa, this is strange. May I ask how many bytes does your system receive after
you change protocol and what dialog you are getting when you change from http to
https?
I am getting no dialog and 0 bytes, cache emptied or not.

The error does not occur with Netscape 6.0, installed on the same system.

I am re-opening this because of the clear evidence above and the severity of the
problem. Please would you provide the URL of the Win32 binary download that I
should use to test this. I would love to see this problem being eliminated at my
end, too.

reporter, can you confirm which build you are using please?

You should be able to find links to up-to-date builds at www.mozillazine.org
Reporter: did you install PSM? PSM is required for viewing https pages.
Thanks. I did NOT install the optional PSM component in a custom install.

I suggest to treat as an issue the fact that secure pages do not load (without
warning) as a consequence of this minimal configuration.

If PSM is NOT installed then a https URL is still opened correctly if it is
entered the first time. This inconsistent behavior appears like a bit of an
obscure bug / user trap really.

Changing subject accordingly, leaving open.
Summary: Secure page not loaded in most basic case → PSM installation requirement to view secure pages not clear - optional install
not a bug. PSM required to view secure sites. See release notes.
