Using Firefox 29.0.1 on Archlinux, the browser crashed when I tried to visit these 2 websites : - http://www.emojitracker.com - http://qcplayground.withgoogle.com In /var/log/messages, the last line written is : ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment. I have a Radeon HD7470M GPU, with the free driver xf86-video-ati activated.
Type about:crashes, do you have crash reports?
Severity: normal → critical
Component: General → Untriaged
Flags: needinfo?(ant.jouve)
Keywords: crash
Typing about:crashes give me a not valid address error page. However, when Firefox is crashing, no window appears to log the event (such as the one documented here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Mozilla%20Crash%20Reporter). I tried launching Firefox from a terminal, and just after the line related to force_s3tc_enable, I got a segfault : "Erreur de segmentation (core dumped)"

(In reply to ant.jouve from comment #2) > Typing about:crashes give me a not valid address error page. However, when > Firefox is crashing, no window appears to log the event Sounds like crash reporting is not enabled in those builds, therefore we do not get usable data to analyze and possibly fix anything here. If this is the builds included in Arch, could you please contact their Firefox package maintainer to enable crash reporting and send symbols to us?
Ok, so I've compiled Firefox Nightly 32.0a1 by following these guides : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Simple_Firefox_build and https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Developer_guide/Build_Instructions/Linux_Prerequisites#Arch_Linux . As I was not able to reproduce the bug on the pages I mentionned previously, I obtained the issue with this WebGl demo : https://developer.mozilla.org/fr/demos/detail/tower-defense . The about:crashes page tells me that "No crash reports have been submitted.", which seems logical since the crash dialog is not opening. Eventually, I ran `mach debug` and backtraced at the segfault, you'll find the results in the attachment.

Same bug here, Iceweasel 30.0-2 in Debian testing. It doesn't happen to me with http://www.emojitracker.com , but it does happen with http://qcplayground.withgoogle.com and with https://www.google.com/maps/views/streetview . On the same system, chromium opens them fine, although (at startup) it also prints "ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.". This bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=752674 may also be related to the same problem (although that site does not crash my iceweasel). I am also attaching a full backtrace.
Result of starting "gdb iceweasel" and browsing to https://www.google.com/maps/views/streetview . By the way, this also happens in safe mode.

The problem exists in Iceweasel 31.2.0 I have it with Youtube using HTML5 player! It doesn't crash immediately, it takes time, and sometimes it crashes when opening PDF files with the HTML5 PDF reader. The message I've is the same "ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment. Segmentation fault" This is what gdb shows me (I don't have code pointers): ------------------------------------------------- [New Thread 0x7fffd3cff700 (LWP 6541)] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread 0x7fffd3cff700 (LWP 6541)] 0x00007ffff353c818 in ?? () from /usr/lib/iceweasel/libxul.so -------------------------------------------------- System details: Debian 7.7 Intel i7-2600 Sandybridge No external GPU, using the default GPU driver.
Ahmad, does this still reproduce for you?

(In reply to Anthony Hughes (:ashughes) [GFX][QA][Mentor] from comment #10) > Ahmad, does this still reproduce for you? It doesn't reproduce using FireFox 47.0 - Ubuntu 16.04LTS.
